Purpose
The Pauper and the Pulpit (P&P) is a type of ministry whose desire is to provide an additional means of discipleship to Believers by invoking thoughtful exercises and providing additional resources. The intention is not to necessarily teach “interesting” facts but rather to exercise rational thought and application of logic. This is accomplished mostly through general thoughts that arise from life and Scriptural studies. P&P’s intent is not to promote a particular denominational perspective or theological idea but to provide as neutral of an opinion as one could possibly present regarding the information presented.
P&P’s writings serve to reflect on the history of the church by building the believer through what the church has always defended in this world across many different cultures. To walk in faith with Christ and to serve Him as Lord. To defend the faith from the culture and to understand why we do church the way we do it. To explore the doctrines of faith and to build discernment against what is against orthodoxy. Additionally, P&P’s writings, particularly regarding Practical Theology, are done so with a specific audience in mind. Perspectives are pointed from particular angles or contexts and will not fully satisfy every counter-argument. The writings are not without bias, as they are presented from personal convictions and theological frameworks that have been studied and determined to be clear to me, personally.
Who am I?
My credentials do not promote me above any others, but instead, I recognize that God has imparted me with a gift and zeal for reading and writing. My conversion came when I was 30 years old, serving in the U.S. Navy, which has resulted in the necessity to move across the country several times. With this and my current secular job, I have ended up serving in eleven churches in five different states. In each church, I have striven to serve in a capacity of music or labor. I have taught small studies, youth groups, and have supplied the pulpit for churches in need.
I have a graduate degree in Biblical Studies: Theological Studies from The Master’s University and have been pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Applied Theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, beginning in the Winter of 2024. In the meantime, I spend many hours devouring books of all capacities and viewpoints. I am in no way perfect but I hope my studies and opinions provide you with encouragement and guidance.
